The Horses Are on the Track!
Posted by Paul Morales | Leave A Comment »

All Around America, the passing of a year is marked by major holidays, the beginning or end of a school year, and the four seasons. But in San Diego, where it often seems like we only have two seasons, marking time always seems to take on a somewhat different look. That “look”, more often than not takes the shape of the outdoor special events that make this area such a special place to live.
With the first half of the year gone & marked by the La Jolla Cove Polar Bear Plunge in January, to the start of another great Padres baseball season in April, then on to Carlsbad’s TGIF Jazz in the Park Concert Series (just to mention a few events), San Diegans are now looking forward to an event that starts the second half. Of course, I’m talking about the thoroughbred horse racing season at Del Mar and 7 weeks of entertainment (Wed. 7/21 – Wed.7/ 8, 2010) that in many ways, are unmatched anywhere in the country.
With crowds of 40,000 plus fans flocking to the “Hat Day” opening celebration and average daily attendance of over 17,000, there can be no doubt about the place racing season holds in the calendar. The attraction is easy to understand when you realize that horse racing is just part of what the event is all about. There’s live Music on Fridays & Saturdays (the 4 O’Clock Fridays Concert Schedule is listed below), Free Admission on Wednesdays, lawn seating on a beautiful infield, & promotional giveaways throughout the season.
That’s a lot of good stuff to be found all in one spot, just like San Diego. So for those of you just getting to know the area, as well as the natives, make sure to take the time to enjoy this event as well as the rest of the “seasons” uniquely our own. Because, this is a great place to live and it would be a shame to pass it up.
Thanks for visiting and if you live in the area, or plan on moving here, then make it a point to revisit this blog or my website, www.OldeCarlsbadRealty.com. More Information Now Available on Megan’s Law Website-Is Your Neighbor on Here?
Posted by Chad Basinger | Leave A Comment »
Would knowing that John Gardner spent a substantial amount of time at his mother’s house in Rancho Bernardo near the site of his brutal murder of Chelsea King had prevented such a tragic event from happening? Unfortunately, we will never know the answer, but effective today (7/1/10), Megan’s Law site, www.meganslaw.ca.gov will begin listing registered sex offender’s concurrent addresses. Thus, in the particular case of John Gardner, it would not have merely listed his grandmother’s house in Lake Elsinore as his primary residence.
This tragedy linking John Gardner, Amber Dubois, and Chelsea King really hit home for me, having grown up playing baseball on the fields next to Chelsea’s disappearance, and graduating from Poway High, as Chelsea was on her way towards doing. Looking out my window at work at the hundreds of volunteers lining up to help was refreshing, yet a sad reminder of something so heart breaking. While we can’t change the past, it is critical that we consistently move forward in doing everything possible to keep the public informed about these despicable individuals and their whereabouts.
Megan’s Law affects everyone and is included in the California Residential Purchase Agreement and Joint Escrow Instructions under 6 D and reads as follows:
Notice: Pursuant to Section 290.46 of the Penal Code, information about
specified registered sex offenders is made available to the public via an Internet Web site maintained by the Department of Justice at www.meganslaw.ca.gov. Depending on an offender’s criminal history, this information will include either the address at which the offender resides or the community of residence and ZIP Code in which he or she resides. (Neither Seller nor Brokers are required to check this website. If Buyer wants further information, Broker recommends that Buyer obtain information from this website during Buyer’s inspection contingency period. Brokers do not have expertise in this area.)
Essentially, it is up to the Buyer to do their due diligence. Fortunately, today is the beginning of more information being made available so that everyone can make a more informed decision when moving to a new area. For those of you not moving, but who have children, it would be prudent to check out the site for the updated information.
While I wish that we didn’t even need Megan’s Law, the reality is that there are predators out there. Let’s all work together to prevent another tragedy from happening.
