Each year, the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce hosts the faire in May and November. Now in its 38th year, the free event has grown to be so popular that it not only continually attracts people from all over Southern California, but also from other states!

October is Emergency Preparedness Month – Make Your Plan Now

Last month’s power outage was a HUGE reminder about disaster preparedness. What did people need most that night? Portable, battery-powered phone chargers and a corded phone that plugs into the wall jack.

Get a kit, make a plan, stay informed

Necessary Items for Kit/duffle bag or plastic tub:
Bottled Water
Canned Foods
Manual Can Open
Battery Operated Radio PLUS batteries (several sizes)
Flashlights
Phone charger (battery operated)
List of Instructions / Plan

Instructions:

Identify an out-of town contact. They may be in a better position to communicate among separated family members.
Be sure every member of your family knows the phone number and has a cell phone, coins, or a prepaid phone card to call the emergency contact. If you have a cell phone, program that person(s) as “ICE” (In Case of Emergency) in your phone.
Teach family members how to use text messaging. Text messages can often get around network disruptions when a phone call might not be able to get through.
Subscribe to alert services. Many communities now have systems that will send instant text alerts or e-mails to let you know about bad weather, road closings, local emergencies, etc. Sign up by visiting your local Office of Emergency Management web site http://www.sdcountyemergency.com/

Keep the gas tank in your car at least half full; and keep a reasonable reserve of cash on hand.
