Windermere Agents help wherever they can. Here’s a chance to help some kids in Africa learn to read with the African Library Project

Africans working in rural library development have a long, lonely, uphill battle. Many are passionate about starting libraries, but they struggle to get books to stock them. Most countries have no publishing industry. Most cities don’t even have a single bookstore. In fact, most Africans are reluctant readers because they have nothing to read except a few old textbooks. It’s a tough scenario for library development: no books, few teachers or librarians, isolated efforts, and reluctant readers.
Did you know?
- Africa has the highest percentage of illiteracy in the world.
- Books are the key to increasing literacy, and literacy is the #1 tool out of poverty.
- Most African children grow up without books, while so many of us load our landfills with used books.
- Many African teachers teach reading, writing, math and English without even a single book to use as a resource.
- The UN has decreed 2003-2012 the United Nations Literacy Decade to underscore the importance of literacy and basic education as major tools in building a cohesive and peaceful society for the 21st century.
We are collecting children’s books for the African Library Project and want to know if you have any children’s books to donate for the kids of Africa? They don’t even see a book until early teens and I want to do my part. Look it up African Library Project. If you have trouble with the pictures, I opened them with Internet Explorer. I have a contact at Southwestern College picking up all I collect late January if you spread the word. Debbie Godwin, Rancho Computers, 619-921-7926 will come to you to pick up. Lesotho is the area we are working on right now. There is an attachment about the area. Please help me help them.
