Giving Thanks By Giving at Casa De Las Campanas
When leaves begin to change color and fall to the ground, we begin to think of that fall institution, Thanksgiving. This is a time to think of all the goodness in our lives, and of giving. Many people plan to spend a festive holiday at home with family, over a sumptuous meal. Others think of presenting themselves at the Salvation Army, Interfaith council, and Father Joe’s Village to serve food to those less bountiful.
This year, the food pantries are alarmingly low as more people have been layed off, cut back, downsized, and just plane without work. Then there are the many families who have lost their homes to foreclosures and short sales. This necessitates a visit to those places that normally are prepared to help them out with a bag of groceries. But this year, the vastly increased demand has depleted the stockpile.
Casa De Las Campanas residents heard of the need and decided to invite their employees to join them in a drive to raise as much food as possible between November 1 and Novermber 20, to present to the San Diego Food Bank.
City Councilman Carl DeMaio was so excited when he heard about this generous effort, he agreed to come and say a few words of gratitude on behalf of the community. Stay tuned for the results.
