Each year since the 4S Ranch community came into existence, the San Diego North Chamber of Commerce has done an outstanding job of hosting a whizz bang street fair. This year was no different, except the location – 4S Ranch Parkway. A park running down the center of two streets, gave an enhanced setting to the event.
Just the steady stream of talent performing on center stage could occupy visitors for the whole day: Dancers, singers, baton twirlers, Martial Arts demonstrations, hula hoop contests, and more. Rob the DJ did his usual fantastic job of steady commentary and prize winning contests.
Vendors artfully displayed their wares, some who are standards in our community, like Time Warner, Center For Health Care. Others, unique boutiques of jewelry, art, clothing, toys, solar heating, you name it.
Then there is the Kiddieland where children could ride flying pink elephants, a dragon, or whirl round and round in flying saucer fashion. Next came the food. Tacos, hot dogs, and tri-tips sandwiches from Hungry Hunter, assorted Asian foods, ice cream from Cold Stone, kettle corn, row upon row to tempt you away from your diet.
Next, the Cultural Center featured the Rancho Bernardo Historical Society, Sikes Adobe, the Friends of the 4S Ranch Library, and this year something new: Local Area Authors. One of their number, Mary Quigley, brought together a dozen talented published authors with their books ranging from romance, mystery, sci-fi, just about every genre. These Authors came prepared to share not only their particular triumphs, but tips for aspiring writers.
The weather remained generally steady at 85 degrees, and a cool breeze blew. Seemingly, every other visitor was accompanied by a pooch or youngsters. It was truly a community day that did not strain the budget! Watch the papers for the next such event at RB Alive! in June, and do it all again.
